In difficult times, ask good questions and move forward together.

Learn from the wisdom of your peers through our Sector-focused Conversations.

We spent two sessions learning from all that are present, to ask difficult questions, to offer courageous observations, and to grow our leadership in our work - as human services professionals, leaders, researchers, community partners, and students.

Topics from our sector-focused conversations:

Session 1: November 13, 2020 (1.00pm - 3.30pm CST)
How Do We Engage Families During These Times?
COVID-19 has exacerbated the needs of families, and many more have turned to the support provided by human services organizations to keep their life afloat as they try to figure out employment, childcare, schooling, health, transportation, among other demands in life. This has also disproportionately impacted families of color, especially those who are Black and Indigenous. Coupled with the sudden move to all things online, new issues of inequities show up especially in access to technology (equipment, wi-fi, and digital literacy).

As changemakers in this field, all of us are having to adapt and come up with new practices to continue supporting families in such difficult times. We talked about:
  • What have we tried? What are we hearing from the families we serve?
  • What collaborations are we forming? What roles do each of us play to make this better?
  • What questions might we have for our peers?
Session 2: November 20, 2020 (1.00pm - 3.30pm CST)
How Do You Keep The Human Services Workforce Motivated?
The intensity of human services work during these times, coupled with redeployment, heightened need, adaptation, and uncertainty, has created additional stressors in the lives of those who work in this field. That, coupled with the changes happening in our own personal lives, and reckoning with the deep racial injustices of our times, pushes many to potential burnout and prolonged fatigue.

How do we keep hope alive in this field? How do we take care of our people? What have you seen and tried with your teams? How can we do better collectively in this field to ensure we continue to listen and deliver the services needed by the families we serve?

What happens to all that wisdom that emerged from the conversations?

Join us on January 15, 2021, to get to a summary of what we learned from the conversations as we share back to the human services sector!
